Heating and Cooling

Heating and ventilating equipment covers a broad line of well-engineered heating and cooling equipment and accessories to provide ultimate comfort and maximum efficiency and economy.  Heating systems may be ducted and non-ducted. Non-ducted systems center mainly on heating but also on wall-unit air conditioners. Heated air in a non-ducted system is transmitted naturally from a heat source located in each room such as baseboard heaters. With non-ducted systems, a separate cooling system or window unit must be installed.

Ducted systems are centrally located to treat air for temperature, humidity and cleanliness. Treated air is moved by a blower and is forced through a network of ducts to strategic points throughout the house. There are six components or properties composing the comfort system: temperature control, filtration, noise reduction, outside air, humidity control, and circulation. Central heating systems include: forced-air gas-fired, oil and electric furnaces, boilers and heat pumps.

The central cooling system consists of an outdoor unit that contains a condensing coil, a compressor and other essential components. Refrigerant lines connect the outdoor unit with the indoor evaporator coil that is located in a supply plenum of the furnace. The cooling unit pumps cool refrigerant through the evaporator coil, which removes heat from the air. This type of indoor/outdoor arrangement is called a split system.

Another type of heating/cooling unit is called a heat pump. Heat pumps are popular for energy efficiency reasons. The heat pump is basically a cooling system with the capacity to reverse its system operation to produce heat. Similar to the split-system cooling, heat pumps can be incorporated into the home heating system. The heat pump transfers heat from outdoors to indoors. The electric furnace is the auxiliary heat source.

A quality Heating & Cooling inspection will include a visual inspection of:

  •  Furnace
  •  Air Conditioning
  •  Duct Work
  •  Filtration
  •  Condensing Unit
